Mrs. Snowden was born on May 1, 1928
in Raymondville, N.Y., the daughter of Edward H. and Lillian (Montroy)
DeRushia. She attended schools in Massena and moved to Ogdensburg in
1940, graduating from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1946. In 1975 she
obtained an A.A. degree from Rockland Community College, a B.S. degree from
Empire State College in 1977 and a Masters Degree in Social Work from Fordham
University in 1983.She received her NYS
license in Social Work in December 1983. She worked at St. Lawrence Psychiatric
Center until 1952 when she transferred to Rockland Psychiatric Center and worked
there until 1985.She then returned to
SLPC until her retirement.She worked
for New York State for over 50 years.After her retirement, she worked at St. Joseph’s Home.
Mrs. Snowden is survived one sister
Eileen Petrisko of Middletown, N.Y.; two nieces, Lynn Rishe and Rona Rishe
Anderson; a great-nephew Reed Overand; a step-son Mark Snowden and several
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased
by her husband Jack C. Snowden in October 2007.
Mrs. Snowden enjoyed pets,
gardening, shopping, garage sales and making jewelry.
A brief memorial service celebrating
the life of Myrt DeRushia Snowden, age 81, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday,
February 27, 2010 at Frary Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. F. James
Shurtleff officiating.Burial will be in
the spring at Notre Dame Cemetery. Mrs.
Snowden passed away on February 20, 2010.
