Bessie Gokey

Graveside services for Bessie D. Gokey, age 93, of 1213
State Street, Ogdensburg will be held in the Spring at Ogdensburgh
Cemetery. There will be no public
calling hours. Mrs. Gokey passed away
Saturday morning, February 2, 2008, at her home.

Mrs. Gokey is survived by her daughter, Virginia Ballou; one
son, William, of Ogdensburg; one sister, Bernice Lashbrook, of Massena; two
granddaughters, Robin Hoek and her husband Brian, of Bloomfield, CO and Kathy Tessmer
and her husband Matt, of Ogdensburg; two great grandsons, Benjamin Ballou
Harvey of St. Albans, VT and Trevor Hoek of Colorado; and two nieces, Linda
Scott and Lucinda Varnedoe. Mrs. Gokey
was predeceased by one son, James Gokey, in 1994 and her grandson, Scott Ballou
in 1987.

Mrs. Gokey was born on November 25, 1914 in the Town of
Hermon, NY, the daughter of Frank and Mabel Fowler Durham. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in
1934. She graduated from Canton College
where she studied in the Dietary Program. She was a member of the Pi Nu
Sorority. She transferred to the St.
Lawrence Psychiatric Center School of Nursing and graduated in 1938. She first started doing private nursing duty
at Hepburn Hospital. She retired in 1983
as a Nursing Supervisor at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center. She married William Gokey on October 7, 1938
in the Town of Wilma, NY with the Justice of the Peace, Fred T. Latham,
officiating. Mr. Gokey died December 25,

During World War II, Mrs. Gokey was involved with the Red
Cross. She was a member of the Eastern
Star and the United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed relaxing on her boat at the Ramada Inn.At one time, she was an avid bowler.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Eastern
Star of the Ogdensburg Chapter or St. Lawrence Valley Hospice and Palliative

    so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom.She was a great lady and it was a honor to kwow her,We all on our dock had many great times together.We will never forget her.
