She was born November 4, 1941, in Ogdensburg, NY and was the daughter of John Herbert Smith and Sara Gertrude Ireland (Sadie). Carol Ann graduated from OFA, Class of 1959, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1961. She graduated from Rothelle’s Business School and worked at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center for 10 years. When Carol Ann turned 50 years old she returned to school and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Labor Relations attending SUNY Canton and then SUNY Potsdam. She worked at Clarkson University as the Assistant to the Dean of the School of Engineering. She loved working with her students. She later retired to her dream home on Basswood Ridge in Rensselaer Falls.
Carol Ann was married to darling David Gregory Longshore September 20, 2003. They were enamored 20 years prior to marriage just to make sure it was going to work☺ They were madly in love for 37 wonderful years!
Carol Ann was a great friend and companion to her late mother-in-law, Joyce Carton Longshore, taking her for long lunches and drives through the countryside. This time together was important to both of them. She was a loyal lifetime member of the Marine Corp League #408. She was an avid sportsman, and a beloved member of the YaYa Sisterhood. Carol Ann was a Girl Scout and Explorers leader. She loved camping and fishing.
Carol Ann is survived by her husband, Darling David Gregory Longshore; her daughter, Emily Fish-Morgan; and her grand-children, Sweet Sadie and Corbin Dell; Leslie and Benjamin Harrison, and her great-grandchildren, Finnegan and Sebastian Harrison; Her favorite nephew, Thomas Hurst married to Donna Lou Hurst; Dora Hurst and her daughter, Heather Hurst; Her wonderful niece, Diane Johnson and her husband, Ronnie Johnson and their children, Buck Johnson and Denise Bertrand; Carol’s brother-in-law, Richard Longshore and his wife, Patricia Longshore and their children and nephew, Billy Longshore.
A celebration of Carol Ann will be scheduled this summer when all her family is able to attend.
