Catherine (Kay) DeCarr Czelada

Czelada, CatherineFuneral services for Catherine (Kay) DeCarr Czelada, age 82, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Frary Funeral Home at 6:00 PM with Rev. Michael O’Donnell officiating. Interment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 3:00 to 6:00PM at Frary Funeral Home on 515 Caroline Street. Mrs. Czelada passed away Monday morning, July 14, 2014 at her private residence.

Catherine is survived by her daughter; Lavonne L. Amo Mills and her husband, Dennis, of Staten Island; a son, Scott A. Amo and his wife, Patty, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister, Diane Fitzgerald and her husband, Jim, of Ogdensburg; a brother, Leslie R. Bastien of Ogdensburg; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Catherine is predeceased by a son, a son, Michael J. Czelada, in 2001 and a sister, Grace Marie Barr, in 2010.

Catherine was born on April 28, 1932 the daughter of Ira and Frances (Fisher) DeCarr. She attended local schools. Catherine married Paul D. Amo on February 4, 1950 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg, that marriage ended in divorce. Catherine later moved to and resided in Holbrook, Long Island in 1955 and was employed at R.I.S.T. Labs as a Medical Lab Assistant. She married Eugene (Jim) Czelada in 1962 in Smithtown, NY. Together they moved to Ogdensburg in 1983 where they resided at 1401 Knox Street. Her husband predeceased her one year later in 1984.

Catherine enjoyed camping, fishing, bingo, playing cards and painting. She loved her cat, “Baby.” Catherine was also a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg and the Humane Society.

Donations may be made in her memory to the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA Shelter, 6718 New York 68, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.

    So sorry to hear of Cathy’s passing. She helped me take care of a gentleman back in ’87-’89. My condolences!

    Diane and family. So sorry to hear of your sisters passing. I know how devoted you were to her. God bless you. She is now home with God.
