Funeral services for Bessie L. Chase-age 93 of County Route 6, Ogdensburg will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at 3:00 pm at Frary Funeral Home with Rev. Lynn Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Ogdensburgh Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral at the funeral home. Mrs. Chase passed away at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center on Thursday morning, January 17, 2008.

Mrs. Chase is survived by her nieces and nephews: Sharon and Alfred Nichols, Robert and Davalene Layng, Donald and Ruth Layng, Richard Layng, Carole and Jack Lemieux and Vicki and Herb Swinden, as well as great nieces and nephews, a step granddaughter, Martha Hulett-Crownhart and a step grandson, Peter Chase. She is predeceased by a brother; Herbert W. Layng, a sister, Dorothy L. Kingston, three stepchildren and their spouses; Leonard and Myrtle Chase, Elma & Edward Hulett, and Ralph and Ruth Chase and a niece, Myrna Layng.

Mrs. Chase was born on November 22, 1914 in Tin Cap, Ontario, Canada; the daughter of Herbert A. and Pearl (Briggs) Layng. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1932 and from Ogdensburg Business School. She married Irving I. Chase on September 2, 1944 at the First Baptist Church Parsonage with Rev. Arthur E. Kelly officiating. Mr. Chase predeceased her on 1988. She first was employed by Connecticut General Life Insurance Company in Ogdensburg for 9 years; the after moving to Sanford, Florida she worked as the Office Manager for North Orlando Water and Sewer Corporation in Winter Springs, Florida until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and gardening.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Heuvelton First Responders, First Baptist Church or Galilee Methodist Church.
