Funeral services for Donald F. Merria, age 80, of Gilbert
St., Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at
Notre Dame Church. Burial will be in Notre
Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening
from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 2:00
to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The V.F.W. will hold a service at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening. Arrangements are with Frary Funeral
Home. Mr. Merria passed away
unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday morning (January 23, 2008).
Mr. Merria is survived by his wife, Patricia, four
daughters, Judy Stransky of DeKalb, Donna Dowd of Galveston,
TX, Marsha Morrow and her husband,
Benjamin, of Ogdensburg and Aliza Jenks and her husband, Fay, of Ogdensburg;
thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Mr. Merria is predeceased by two brothers,
Carl and Robert; one granddaughter, Angel Patricia Latimer and one great
granddaughter, Alina Stransky.
Mr. Merria was born on February 28, 1927 in Ogdensburg, the son of Francis and
Eva Mashaw Merria. He attended local
schools. He served in the U.S. Army in
1945 to 1946. He married the former
Phyllis Patricia Spooner on April 17,
1948 in Ogdensburg. He first
worked as an equipment truck driver for Tex Montana’s band. He worked at Standard Shade Roller for 42
years, retiring as a Foreman in Shipping and Receiving.
He was a life member of the V.F.W. and the Amvets and a
member of the American Legion. Hobbies
include hunting and fishing.
