Dorothy Baker

Funeral services for Dorothy Baker, age 87, of Harrisville, NY, will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018, at 10:00AM at St. Francis Solanus Church with Rev. Donald J. Manfred officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Solanus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 17, 2018, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Frary Funeral Home, Harrisville. Mrs. Baker passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, Hospice of Jefferson County at Ellis Farm, in Watertown, NY.

Dorothy was born on August 28, 1930, in Jerden Falls, NY, the daughter of Edward and Eveleen Prittie Chartrand. She attended school in Jerden Falls and later went to Harrisville Central School. Dorothy married Gerald E. Baker on June 11, 1949 at St. Anthony’s Church in Indian River, NY with Rev. Cosmos F. Girard officiating. Gerald predeceased her on March 15, 2008. Dorothy was a bus driver for the Harrisville Central School District for nineteen years. She later owned and operated two craft stores, Chris’s Crafts and Grandma’s House.

Dorothy is survived by her five children, Kerry “Mike” Baker and his wife, Barb, of Urbana, OH, Cheryl Planck and her husband, Perry, of Castorland, NY, Scott Baker and his wife, Lisa, of Barnesville, OH, Leta Breault of Montgomery, AL and Juliann Cunningham and her husband, Christopher, of Lebanon, TN; a brother, Glenn Chartrand of Croghan, NY; nineteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her two sons, Edward C. Baker in 2011 and Daniel James Baker in 2011; two sisters, Kathleen Baker and Lucretia Brouty and four brothers, Edward Chartrand, Harold (Pat) Chartrand, Harrison Chartrand and Kenneth (Jack) Chartrand.

Dorothy’s greatest joy was raising her family and spoiling her grandchildren. She took pride in her work outdoors and enjoyed crafting. Dorothy liked to play cards, bingo and trips to the casino. Mrs. Baker was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella in Harrisville, NY.

Donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601.

    I am so sorry Scott and Lisa. I used to go to her shops with my children and Lou Ann every time we visited the Lake. We always found something that we couldn’t live without! So sorry to know that 2 sons predeseased her 😢 How incredibly sad. May the Lord Jesus bless you and keep you strong in this unfathomable time.

    She will always be a part of my heart, growing up as a neighbor and friends of her kids. she will be missed by many. Know you all are in my thoughts and Prayers. Wish I could of been there to celebrate her life, but my mother is not well enough for travel. Will never be forgotten. <3

    I work with Jolyn in San Antonio, TX. I shared my condolences with her and would like to also share them with you. In reading about Ms. Baker, it is evident that she loved family, crafting and the outdoors.. Together with her faith, I am sure she had much to offer others and will be deeply missed.

    Mary Edwards Micek..Dorothy and I were 1st cousins. I am Margaret Chartrand Edwards’ oldest child.. I now live in Virginia but have very found memories of Dorothy growing up and when we actually had time to visit our relatives. Please accept my deepest sympathy .
