Services for Earl Carter, Ogdensburg, will be held at the convenience of the
family. Burial will be held in the spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Arrangements
are with Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mr. Carter passed away on Thursday (January
15, 2009) at his home.
survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Karen Carter, Ogdensburg; two
daughters, Marion Carter and her companion, Bob Cline, and Carrie Montroy and
her husband, Bryan, all of Ogdensburg; one grandson, Earl D. Carter,
Ogdensburg; two brothers Charles “Chick” and his wife Carol, and Daniel both of
Ogdensburg; three sisters Charlotte Castleman, Canada; Edna and her husband
Robert Paro, Richville; and Eleanor Cutwa, Ogdensburg. He was predeceased by
two brothers Walter and Lawrence Carter.
Carter was born on September 26, 1928 in Ogdensburg, the son of John and Mary
Hess Carter. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. He served during the Korean
Conflict. He married Dawn Mashaw Carter
on August 11, 1979 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with Rev. Msgr. John Pendergast
officiating. Mrs. Carter predeceased him on August 12, 2007.
Carter was the caretaker at St. Mary’s Cathedral and Cemetery for 39 years. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the horse races and he was well known for playing fast pitch for Pete’s
Tavern and Darryl’s Hotel.
