Funeral services for Edward M. Doner, age 77, of State
Highway 37, Lisbon, will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at St.
Patrick’s Church in Syracuse. Entombment
will be at St. Mary’s Mausoleum in Dewitt, NY.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Frary
Funeral Home. Mr. Doner passed away Thursday,
April 2, 2009 at Claxton Hepburn Renal Center.
Calling hours will be held on Monday at the Edward Ryan Funeral Home in
Syracuse from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Doner is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Paul
and his wife, Cindy, and Matthew and his wife, Kristin, both of Syracuse; two
sisters, Teresa Punch of Syracuse and Norine Wilsch also of Syracuse; three
brothers, Robert, of Lowville, Richard, and Gerald, both of Syracuse; and four
grandchildren, Sean, Katelyn, Olivia and Isabella.
Mr. Doner was born in Syracuse, NY, on July 3, 1931, the son
of Edward and Helen Stapleton Doner. He
attended local schools and graduated from Onondaga Community College and
attended Syracuse University. He served
in the U. S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 on the U.S.S. Goodrich during the Korean
Conflict. Mr. Doner first worked as a
brick layer. He married the former
Marilyn York on January 21, 1963 in Pennsylvania. He later went to work for Jamesville
Correctional Facility where he retired in 1987 as a Captain. He was Chief of the Howlett Hill Volunteer
Fire Department and served as Chairman of that Board. Mr. Doner was Past President of the Iroquois
German Shephard Club. He was a member of
the American Legion of Lisbon, Post 1342.
Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s
Hospital, Howlett Hill Volunteer Fire Department or the Claxton Hepburn Renal
