Gary was born on November 15, 1944 the son of Jeremiah and Ruth Fleming Jarvis, Ogdensburg, NY. Gary was married to Nancy LaRock, July 15, 1967, at Notre Dame Church with Msgr. A. D. Charbonneau officiating.

In December 1980, Gary graduated from the FBI Academy, 123rd session, Quantico, Virginia. He was elected Sheriff in November of 1999. He served at the Sheriff’s Office for thirty-eight years.

Sheriff Jarvis had a long and successful career with the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff held several positions within the department. The one he was so honored and proud of being elected Sheriff in November of 1999. He served in that capacity until his retirement in December 2007.

Gary was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 258, Msgr. AD Charbonneau Council, Ogdensburg, New York. Gary also served as Town Councilman for the town of Lisbon, New York, was member of the New York State Sheriff’s Association, St. Lawrence County Republican Party Committeeman, and a long time member of the Ogdensburg Lions Club. For the past few years Gary was an assistant at Frary Funeral Home.

The Jarvis family would like to thank Dr. Alka Srivastava, MD, the nurses of Richard E. Winter Cancer Treatment Center and the ICU Unit of Claxton Hepburn Medical Center for the professional care Gary received during his illness. Also the kindness and thoughtfulness from the priests that visited Gary. Thanks to the many friends who spent time with him at home, while in the hospital and who sent cards and well wishes.
