Hazel S. Mead

Funeral services for Hazel S. (Murray) Mead, age 89, of Ogdensburg, NY, will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019, at 10:00AM at St. Raphael’s Church in Heuvelton, NY with Reverend Doug J. Lucia officiating. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery in the Spring. Calling hours will be held from 2:00PM to 6:00PM on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Ms. Mead passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Maplewood Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.

Hazel is survived by her two children, Timothy James Murray and his wife, Carol, of Heuvelton, NY and Thomas Joseph Murray of Heuvelton, NY; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a daughter, Sally Murray and six siblings, Alfred Sias, Frank Sias, Morris Sias, Florence Sias, Robert Sias and Thomas Sias in infancy.

Hazel was born on November 12, 1929, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of Frank Henry and Ruth Agnes (Hand) Sias. She attended Galilee School and also George Hall Trade School. Hazel married Donald L. Murray on June 7, 1947, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg, NY. He predeceased her on February 16, 1991. Hazel was first employed by Judy Rose and later retired from Shade Roller as a machine operator.

Hazel’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Donations may be made in Hazel’s memory to the Heuvelton Fire Department, 95 State Street, Heuvelton, New York 13654 and St. Raphael’s Church and Parish, 5 Clinton St, Heuvelton, NY 13654.

    All the wonderful memories I have of my childhood were spent with my grandparents, Nanny and Poppy. My grandmother taught me so much and always made us feel loved and safe. Rest in peace, Nanny.
