services for J. Edgar Johnston, of Ogdensburg, will be held at the convenience
of the family. Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mr.
Johnston passed away on Thursday (March 19, 2009) on the long term care unit at
Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Mr. Johnston is survived by one son,
Edgar E. Johnston, and his wife, Linda of Benton, Arkansas; two daughters,
Donna Sharland and her husband, Stephen, of Ogdensburg, and Ellen Vigus and her
husband, Richard, of Forest Hill, MD; and several grandchildren and great
grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister, Janet Paradis, and two
brothers, Ernest and James Johnston.
J. Edgar Johnston was born on July
31, 1920 in Ogdensburg, the son of E. Roy and Elizabeth Premo Johnston.
He married Marjorie Stevenson on September 3, 1949; she predeceased him
in December 2003. Mr. Johnston was a farmer and a Herdsman at the St. Lawrence
Psychiatric Center for 37 years. He also worked as a state agriculture
inspector retiring in 1977. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II where
he was stationed in Africa, Europe, France, Germany, and Italy. He was a member
of the DAV, Mason, AMVETS Post 1997, and the American Jersey Cattle Club.
