Funeral services for James Brown, age 88, formerly of Ogdensburg
and Port Ritchie, Florida, and of United Helpers Nursing Home will be held on
Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Terry
LaValley officiating. Burial will be in
St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Frary
Funeral Home. Mr. Brown passed away Thursday
afternoon (August 6, 2009) at United Helpers Nursing Home surrounded by his
children.

Mr. Brown is survived by one son, Bob and his wife, Carol, Brown,
of Plano, TX; three daughters, Peggy Montpetit and her husband, Pete, of
Ogdensburg, NY, Cathy Toeper and her husband, Eric, of Brockport, NY, Mary
Grady and her husband, Bob, of Ogdensburg; seven grandchildren, Lisa and Tom Woods,
Lori Montpetit, Jeremy and Christopher Toeper, Melissa Brown and Andrew and
Megan Grady; and four great grandchildren, Morgan and Taylor Woods and Madison
and Carson Wescott. Mr. Brown was
predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy on February 9, 1995.

Mr. Brown was born on May 21, 1921 in Ogdensburg, the son of
James and Margaret Purcel Brown. He
graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He worked construction on the St. Lawrence
Seaway. Later he worked in maintenance
at Cedars Nursing Home. He retired from
Ogdensburg School District in 1980 from the maintenance department. He married Dorothy Barnes on September 29,
1947 with Rev. Arthur Leary at St. Mary’s Cathedral. He enjoyed watching westerns on television. He also enjoyed spending time at his camp
watching the ships on the St. Lawrence River. He and his wife spent many winters in Florida in the Port Ritchie
area.

On Thursday his great grandchildren all sent him a letter to
heaven tied to balloons.

Donations may be made in his memory to United Helpers
Nursing Home and the Ogdensburg Rescue Squad.
