Funeral services for Jerome G. Lovely, Sr., age 67, of 504 Main Street, Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Notre DameChurch with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be in EelWeirCemetery in the Spring. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home. Mr. Lovely passed away on Wednesday afternoon (February 6, 2008) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Mr. Lovely is survived by his wife, Ella (“Peggy”); one daughter, Jo-Ellen Murray and her husband, Thomas, of Ogdensburg; one son, Jerome Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Ogdensburg; three grandchildren Jared Murray, Jesse Murray and Christopher Lovely; and one sister, Mae Lockheart of Lisbon. Mr. Lovely was predeceased by a brother, David Lovely.
Mr. Lovely was born on February 27, 1940 in Ogdensburg, the son of David and June DeLaire Lovely. He graduated from OgdensburgFreeAcademy in 1958. He married Ella (“Peggy”) LaVenture on February 6, 1960 at Notre DameChurch with Rev. Leo LaDuke officiating. He served in the National Guard for eight years. He first worked for E. D. Briggs Produce and later owned his own gas station. He also worked construction for the St. Lawrence Seaway Project. He was a custodian for the U.S. Postal Service in Ogdensburg retiring in 1992 after twenty three years of service.
Mr. Lovely enjoyed bowling, hunting, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling. He built three stock cars and enjoyed racing them. He was a member of the Cool Brook Hunting Club, the Amvets and the American Legion.
Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley and the Richard E. Winter Cancer Treatment Center.
