Juanita M. Thornton

Mrs. Juanita M. Thornton, age 78, of Ogdensburg, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. There will be no funeral or calling hours per her request. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.

Juanita is survived by her loving husband, Jefferson Thornton; four children, Randy Thompson and his wife, Nancy, Camilla Bill and her husband, Timothy, Carla Powers and Russell Thompson, all of Heuvelton, NY; three step-children, Alane Farrell and her husband, Jim, Jeff Thornton and his wife, Dawn, and Angela Thornton, all of Ogdensburg, NY; a sister, Deltra Curry and her husband, Howard, of Colorado; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Juanita was born on January 5, 1940, in Gouverneur, NY, the daughter of Howard and Marjorie Devendorf Hitsman. She graduated from Morristown Central School in 1958. She was first married to Richard Thompson, which ended in divorce. Richard predeceased her in April of 2010. Juanita then married Jefferson Thornton on May 27, 1989, on the St. Lawrence River with Judge Bob Morrow officiating. She worked as a receptionist and later owned and operated Thompson Realty in Morristown for many years.

Juanita enjoyed painting and was a great artist.

Donations may be made in Juanita’s memory to the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association, 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.

    Cammie and Tim, Casey, Chelsea, Randy, Carla and Rusty and families and Jeff, I am so so sorry to hear of Juanita’s passing. She was such a nice lady and was always smiling whenever I saw her. I know how much you all will miss her, but remember, as long as you have her memories and hold her in your hearts, she will never truly be gone.
