Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Kevin J. Cardinal

Kevin Jon Cardinal, aged 64, passed away on Saturday, December 29th surrounded by his loving family. There will be no services per his wishes. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.

Kevin will be affectionately remembered by his wife of 38 years, Margaret Cardinal, and his children, Colleen Anderson and Jonathan Cardinal. Kevin was predeceased by his parents, Francis J. Cardinal and Evelyn I. Cardinal, and a sister, Kathie Bland.

A lifelong resident of Ogdensburg, NY, Kevin graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1972. He dedicated his career to the art of carpentry, a passion he developed early in life working with his father in the family-owned and operated Cardinal Carpet and Flooring. He worked with John Doyle Builders constructing houses and commercial buildings throughout the North Country region of New York. He then worked in carpentry, flooring, and painting for the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, where he retired in the summer of 2017. He was most proud of his side business in specialty carpentry, flooring, and stonework, bringing joy to the many home and business owners whose properties he renovated.

He made fond memories hunting, four-wheeling, motorcycling, and snowmobiling, including adventuring on a cross-country snowmobile trip. Kevin was a believer in giving back to the community, serving in the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and putting his carpentry skills to work building homes for Habitat for Humanity.

Those who so desire may make a donation in memory of Kevin to the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Foundation, 214 King Street Ogdensburg, NY 13669.

Maggie, Colleen & Jonathan, words cannot express our shock and sorrow at Kevin’s passing. Kevin was the type of guy we thought would live forever and could do anything he set his mind upon. He single handedly rebuilt the camp with some heavy duty construction. He was physically tough but also mentally tough. He was old school for sure. God bless him and you all and again we are so sorry with your loss.

Memories from long ago — your van with a map of the U.S., each state done in a different carpet piece. Wonder where those came from? Motorcycle rides with the gang. A true down-to-earth sweetheart. RIP Kevin.

Dear. Maggie, Colleen , and Jonathan ,

I am so sorry to hear of Kevin’s passing. As his sister we were not close but I will always remember the best gift he gave me, my first dog. He instilled in me a love for dogs with that gift at Christmas so many years ago. We were night and day as siblings. But, I always heard positive things from everyone who would ask if we were related. I hope the fond memories of Kevin helps the three of you in your grief. May he Rest In Peace .

please forgive me for posting now, I just learned of this…Kevin and I were neighbor’s and went through grade school and high school together. Many summer night’s were spent playing tag and hide and go seek, maybe even a game of kissing tag got thrown in a few times. Kevin always spoke to me no matter where he saw me and I considered him a true friend; I have great respect for him and am heart broken to hear of his loss…prayers to your family.
