Briere, MichaelGraveside services for Michael Joseph Briere of Sierra Vista, Arizona, will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Ogdensburg Cemetery with a reception following at the Elks Lodge. Michael passed away on May 7, 2016 at his home after a brief illness.

Michael was born on July 7, 1962 in Altus, Oklahoma to Donald and Helen Briere. He attended Kalaheo High School in Hawaii, graduating in 1980. He enlisted in the Army Reserve, eventually earning the rank of Major. He attended the University of Central Arkansas, graduating with an Associates Degree in History and a Bachelors Degree in English. He also attended Cochise College, graduating with an Associates Degree in Nursing in 2010.

Michael loved reading and learning and was knowledgeable and well-versed on a wide range of subjects. He liked to watch movies and was especially fond of science fiction. He was a gym enthusiast and rarely missed a day exercising and lifting weights at Summit Fitness. Michael took pleasure in working with his hands and tools, and had been remodeling his home prior to the onset of his illness. He had recently started cooking and improving in his skill. He was a great story-teller blessed with a hearty laugh and the gift of gab, and he will truly be missed.

Michael is survived by his wife of 16 years, Laura (Sperry) Briere of Sierra Vista, AZ; his mother and step-father, Helen and Joseph Echevarria, of Conway, AR; three children: Stephanie Verseman and her husband, Nicholas, of Largo, FL; Michael Briere of Largo, FL, and Kurtis Briere of Richmond, VA; three brothers: Christopher Briere and his wife, Julie, of Little Rock, AR, Todd Briere and his wife, Karen, of San Antonio, TX, and Eric Briere and his partner, Joel Preciado, of Austin, TX; a sister, Cheri Woodward, and her husband, Timothy, of Ogdensburg, NY; three grandchildren, and many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Michael was predeceased by his father, Donald “Frenchie” Briere on March 18, 2012.

Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

    laura,helen,eric,cheri,todd,stephanie,mike,chris,kurtis,first of all sorry about mike’s passing our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time of griefing.he was a great guy and a good friend to me.he will be missed and he is with Frenchie,and your uncle john.rob messina.
