Nelson C. Tynon

Graveside services for Nelson C. Tynon, age 84, of Jay Street, Ogdensburg, will be held in the Spring at Notre Dame Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mr. Tynon passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Nelson is survived by his wife, Emily Lou; his children, Chad Poole and his wife, Sandra, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cheryl Murphy and her husband, Patrick, of Ogdensburg, NY and Jessica Domster and her husband, Roy, of Vero Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Ty and Jace Domster of Vero Beach, FL, Chritopher and Michael Murphy of Ogdensburg, Brandi Blackmer of Ogdensburg, Jason Poole and his wife, April, of Ogdensburg and Sarah Donohue and her husband, Greg, of New Jersey, nine great grandchildren and also three special extended family members, Jennifer Piercy, Alexa Trimm and Linda Trimm. He is predeceased by a son, Garland Poole, in 2013 and a grandson, Patrick Murphy Jr., in 1994.

Nelson was born on June 22, 1934 in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of Clifford Patrick and Elizabeth Ramie Tynon. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy, Class of 1951. After graduation, Nelson entered into the United States Navy in September of that year. He received training at Bainbridge, MD and graduated from the Naval Machinist’s Mate School, Service School Command, U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lake, IL on April 18, 1952. He later reported for duty and served on the U.S.S. Curtiss and U.S.S. Chaurre. Nelson was honorably discharged in 1955. Nelson married Emily Lou Carter on December 5, 1970, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. John N. Huber officiating. In 1969 Nelson was hired as a machinist at the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corporation in Massena, NY and retired in 1998 as a Union Representative.

Nelson was a lifetime member of the Diamond Sportsman Club and the AMVETS in Massena, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nelson’s memory to the Patrick Murphy Jr. Scholarship Fund, in care of Ogdensburg Free Academy, 1100 State Street, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.

    Lou, so sad to hear about Nelson. The last time we saw each other was at Aunt Irma’s home in Lakeland, FL about six years ago. Nelson was a respectable man and will be sadly missed by y’all. Take care and if you need anything please give us a shout. God Bless!
