Edna Mae Ashley

–

Ogdensburg, NY

Edna Ashley, age 93, of Ogdensburg passed away peacefully on Monday morning, May 5, 2025, at St. Joseph's Home, with her family by her side.

She was born on March 7, 1932, in Iroquois, Ontario to Cedric and Helen Spooner Redmond, and later moved to Ogdensburg, New York, where she graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy. After high school Edna married the love of her life, Melvin, on July 17, 1951, at Notre Dame Church, where she remained a devoted and active member. Edna's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister with great dedication.

Edna leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Sharon Ashley, and her companion, Jim Clarey of Manlius; her cherished grandchildren, Heather Thompson, Denise Loadwick, Shawna Bennett, Steven Ashley, Meghan Timm, and Jared Ashley; and many adored great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Donald Redmond of Ogdensburg and Sue Higgins of NJ; daughter-in-law Denise Gates; and son-in-law Richard Bennett. Edna was predeceased by her devoted husband, Melvin Ashley; her beloved daughter and sons, Janice Corrice, Bryan Ashley and Steven Ashley; and her grandson, Allan Corrice.

Throughout her life, Edna worked as a Therapy Aide at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, where she touched many lives with her kindness and compassion. Later, she pursued her passion for animals by owning and operating a dog grooming business, bringing joy to both pets and their owners.

Edna had a special love for antiques and was a familiar face at local garage sales, always on the lookout for hidden treasures. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Her warmth, love, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Friends and family are invited to gather for calling hours on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Frary Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 10:00 am at Notre Dame Church, with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Edna will be laid to rest at Notre Dame Cemetery following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Notre Dame Heritage Fund, 124 Ford Ave, Ogdensburg, NY 13669, or St. Joseph's Foundation, 950 Linden Street, Ogdensburg, New York, 13669, in memory of Edna's lifelong commitment to her faith and community.
