OGDENSBURG - Beloved father and grandfather Federico A. Loinaz, MD, FACP, 87, of Ogdensburg, NY, passed away on October 20, 2025, at St. Joseph's Home of Ogdensburg.
Though Federico may not have liked being the center of attention, he will be remembered for his long years of service to family, community, and country. He was a man of integrity, kindness, generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Dr. Federico A. Loinaz was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on July 5, 1938, the son of Fred and Maria (Solomon) Loinaz. After earning his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Santo Domingo, he moved to Canada to complete an internship at St. John's Hospital. It was there that Federico met and married his wife, Annie Gorman, who was completing her training as a R.N. Federico and Annie lived and worked at hospitals in New York City and Boston before coming to live in Lisbon and raise their family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1969 to 1971, stationed in Thailand and Alabama. Federico established a private practice, the Ogdensburg Medical Group, where he dedicated his career to serving as a respected Internist for 51 years. Federico met and cared for people throughout the North Country; during his medical career, he worked with hospice, nursing homes, the NYS prison, as well as rural health care clinics established through a partnership with the Ogdensburg Medical Group.
Federico was an avid reader and lifelong student of medicine. He enjoyed hiking in the Adirondacks and canoeing on the St. Lawrence River. He loved nature and wildlife, and took joy in feeding cats and birds, and any other animals lucky enough to be in the area. But mostly, he was a devoted doctor who truly cared for his patients, getting to know them, going on house calls, hearing about their lives and helping them feel better.
Federico is survived by his children, William (Aimee), Francine, Anthony and Nicole; grandchildren, Damian, Gabriel and Sabine; and his sister, Josefina Stern, as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Maria Solomon; and his wife, Annie Loinaz.
We find comfort in knowing that Federico lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever. As dad would say, remember, "You are amazing."
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ogdensburg. A private service was held for family members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph's Home of Ogdensburg and the ASPCA, a cause close to Dad's heart. Online condolences may be made at www.fraryfuneralhome.com/obituaries.
