 Sarah M. Walker,
89, of the United Helper’s Adult Residence died on June 25th .  Mrs. Walker and her husband, Arlington Walker
were married on December 6, 1940 in Spring Valley, NY and, resided  at 37 Justina St, Heuvelton for most of their
married life.  Mr. Walker was an Oswegatchie
Town Justice for nineteen  years during
which time Sarah volunteered her time to keep all of the files and records for
the Oswegatchie Town Court.  Their house
often served as a late night stop for a state trooper or sheriff’s deputy
dropping off tickets and court papers.

 Mr. Walker died on
April 13, 1981.

Located one block from Heuvelton Central School, the
Walker House was also a daily stop for generations of nieces and nephews and
their school friends to drop by for a visit and a freshly made donut or
chocolate chip cookie.

During WWII, Sarah served in the Civil Air Patrol Corps
of spotters which stood watch in towers around Heuvelton on the lookout for
enemy aircraft.   Mrs. Walker recounted
how volunteers were required to study posters of profiles of the various enemy
aircraft so any sightings could be reported quickly and accurately.
