Funeral services for Warren J. Jones, age 88, of Lisbon, NY, will be held Friday, April 26, 2019, at 12:00PM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Lisbon with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery following funeral services. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM and on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mr. Jones passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at St. Joseph’s Home in Ogdensburg with family by his side.

Known as Sonny by most people, he was born on September 1, 1930, in Lisbon, NY, the son of Warren H. and Elsie M. Richardson Jones. He attended a one-room schoolhouse until it closed, then attended Ogdensburg Free Academy and graduated in 1948. Sonny worked on the family farm with his father. Even though he retired at the age of 62, he continued to work on the farm and helped Russ in the fields, helped saw logs and was often seen working in his vegetable garden. In addition to farming, he sold seed corn for Hoffman Seed Company for many years. He loved to visit local farmers and did more visiting then selling.

On June 3, 1952, he married Mary E. Bowden at the Lisbon Wesleyan Church with Rev. Aldus Lamos officiating. Sonny and Mary enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage before Mary passed away on March 18, 2018. During these sixty-five years, they learned to square dance and they square danced across the country. They were members of the Ogdensburg square dance group – The Maple City Swingers. Sonny and Mary along with fellow square dancers went on at least five square dancing cruises. They loved to play cards and games with friends. They both belonged to the Draft Horse Club and participated in putting on the Plow Days and drove their Belgian workhorses in the annual wagon train ride. They were members of the Lisbon 89’ers Senior Citizen Group and they were their King and Queen for the group multiple times. Sonny and Mary, along with several other parents (the Jemisons, Allnatts, Russells & O’Brians) started the Riverview 4-H Club for their children. They enjoyed boating and spending time on the river.

Sonny is survived by his sister, Joyce Jones of Lisbon, NY & Winter Haven, FL; three children, Cindy Molesky and her husband, Peter, of Rome, NY, Sue Zullo and her husband, Ron, of Cape Cod, MA and Russ Jones and his wife, Jeanette, of Lisbon, NY; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a brother, Robert Jones, in infancy.

The Family of Warren Jones wishes to extend a “special thank-you” to Dr. David Dunn and his caregivers while at home – Christel Crossett, Sharon Sharpe, Marsha Barkley and Cathy Nisbet. They would also like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Joseph’s Home for their compassionate care and for treating him like family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Lisbon -PO BOX 117, 9226 Five Mile Line Road, Ogdensburg, NY 13669, St Joseph’s Home – 950 Linden Street, Ogdensburg, NY 13669 or a charity of one’s choice.

It was totally by fate that I learned of Sonny’s passing. This morning I was looking up on line the obituary of my wonderful husband, Robert R “Bob” Jones, who passed away on October 30, 2018, when I happened to notice the name Warren Jones listed in the left column. I thought it might be Bob’s cousin and yes it was. I remember going out to the farm to visit Sonny’s parents, Bob’s aunt and uncle, Warren and Elsie, with our young children about 50 years ago. I also remember visiting with Mary and Sonny during some of Bob’s and my later visits to Ogdensburg to visit Bob’s aunt Mary Feely Brown.
Please know Sonny is in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry for your loss. God bless.
